Caffeine-Free Mocha Mousse & Oreo Trifle

Husband is away on business,
alone with the kids this weekend, it's snowing outside,
and they don't want to go out and play in the snow.
What to do to keep them busy?
A Kitchen activity!
 We are making something that does not involve fire or heat.
Here's an easy no bake, no eggs recipe for mousse
that you can make with the kids
when you are sequestered at home.


1 1/3 cup chocolate chips
10 tbsp decaf coffee
1 tbsp dutch cocoa powder (optional)
a pinch of salt
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup sugar
10 pcs oreos cookie crumbs, (remove cream filling)

Mini Trifles


  • Place mixing bowl and wire whisk in the freezer for about 15 minutes.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, combine coffee, salt, and cocoa powder (optional).
  • Add chocolate chips, stir frequently until melted and smooth.
  • Remove from heat, transfer to a mixing bowl and set aside.
  • Place heavy cream in the cold mixing bowl, beat (using a wire wisk attachment)until soft peaks form.
  • Slowly add sugar, 1 tbsp at a time until all sugar has been added.
  • Beat for another minute or two until stiff peaks form.
  • Fold whipped cream into the chocolate mixture, blend gently but thoroughly until no white streaks
  • remain.
  • Spoon mousse into your desired dessert glass, layer it with oreo crumbs and top with the whipped cream.
  • Garnish with a mint sprig, berry or choice and you can also top it with white and dark chocolate shavings.


  1. This is the ultimate dessert for my chocolate-mousse-Oreo loving son... I have to hide these photo before he sees this. Otherwise, I will have a very noisy demanding kid. LOL!

    My 4 yr. old son has been opening the fridge all day long looking for the rest of the mousse.
    I had to hide it at the garage fridge because he had 2 cups in one sitting yesterday and had another after dinner.
    He was so hyper at bedtime.
    I gave him one after naptime today so he's good now.
